Unique Mother's Day Activities for Celebrating Mom

Mother’s Day is around the corner, and if you have been celebrating a few years, you might be stuck on what to do this year. Breakfast in bed, lunch out, and spa days are wonderful and are a bit too common to use every year. Rather than sticking to a boring routine, here are some ideas for unique Mother’s Day activities that I have used over the years.

Ask Her Already!

Sometimes the best thing to do is ask her. This is my go-to when I get stuck on ideas. Sometimes moms want a big exciting day planned, but others want simplicity without stress. My personal favorite is a family picnic that features some fried chicken and sides. Or tacos. No dressing up, no going to a busy restaurant, just something calm and simple. Sign Up for a Class

Let Mom step into a new world of creation. Many workshops allow you to tap into your creative side. Painting and pottery classes are all over towns across the country that will teach you each step of the way to creating some cool art that can be taken home and put on display. Many also allow you to bring a bit of wine and light snacks to enjoy during the adventure. Cooking classes have also become very popular to learn a method of cooking or learning how to use herbs and spices. Maybe Mom has always wanted to learn spanakopita but is a little intimidated. You take her, and you both can dive into the experience together.

Tackle a Home Project for Her

Maybe the roof needs a little work, or she has wanted new wallpaper in the bathroom, this is a great time to take care of those things for her. Of course, you want to make sure she is okay with your design choices if the project focuses on décor rather than structure.

Get Crafty With Her

Is your mom into crafting? Yarn, fabric, and new supplies that magically show up in her craft room would be a great way to surprise her. As a fiber crafter myself, there is no such thing as “too much” in the craft room. It will be used! Look for things that maybe she has wanted but hasn’t been able to afford. If her craft room is messy (ha!) perhaps buy or build her an organizing system that keeps clutter at bay and encourages her crafty enjoyment.

Visit a Farm

Take the time to spend a day visiting a farm or orchard. Enjoy petting and feeding livestock. Pick some luscious strawberries, grapes, or some peaches at the orchard. The fresh air and fruits or veggies are a wonderful way to make a memory together.

Don’t forget to include all Moms. If your mom is deceased, cook her favorite meal or write a letter to her, it helps the healing heart. If you know a mom who lost a child, check in with her and send flowers. Knowing that she is still a mom could do wonders for her mental health. How about the woman with pets but no children? She is a nurturer as well! Don’t forget to also welcome fur-moms into the celebration simply for their kindheartedness to our four-legged fur friends.
